Larry Dean Wegner was born on August 16, 1949, in West Point to Lavern and Ruth (Neligh) Wegner. He grew up in West Point and received his early education at St. Paul Lutheran School, attending through the eighth grade, before graduating from West Point Public High School in 1967.

Following high school, Larry proudly enlisted in the United States Army. He served his country during the Vietnam War, with assignments in both Vietnam and Germany, and was honorably discharged in 1976. After his military service, Larry moved to Salina, KS, where graduated from Kansas Wesleyan University. While in Salina, he managed the Legion Club.

Larry later returned to West Point, where his life became defined by service, faith, and volunteerism. He was a devoted member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, where he served faithfully as an usher, participated regularly in Sunday Bible study, and dedicated countless hours to supporting both the church and its school. Larry served on the St. Paul Lutheran School Board, including as president, and was deeply involved in the Booster Club. He was a familiar and encouraging presence at school events. He served as a crossing guard, worked the Fair Stand, cheered on students, and stepped in wherever help was needed. If the school needed something done, Larry was there.

Beyond the church and school, Larry was actively involved with the American Legion and VFW, where he played a key role in Memorial Day commemorations and was a consistent member of funeral honor guards. He also took pride in supporting West Point Public Schools' alumni activities and helped with the Salvation Army bell ringing.

Survivors include his brother, Robert Meyer of Stanton; sister, Rita Folts of Omaha; brother-in-law, Bob Roberts of Sioux Falls, SD; nieces and nephews, Chris (Krissy) Wegner, Cheri (Toni) Marquardt, Cody Wegner, Curtis (Kandi Muth) Wegner, Samuel (Jessica) Roberts, Roger Folts, Sara Demanett, Shayla Meyer, Alyssa (Randy BlackTailDeer) Meyer, Jasmine Meyer, Brody (Liz) Meyer, Gary Meyer, and numerous great nieces and great nephews

He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Shirley Roberts; and sister-in-law, Kim Meyer.

Larry was a wonderful organizer for many of our West Point High School reunions. He kept careful records on the whereabouts of our fellow graduates, and enabled us to reach out to our high school "chums" before honor year reunions. Nice job, Larry, you will be missed by many.

To his family I am so sorry for your loss. Larry was always so stoic, but I did manage to make him laugh and joke a little. I´ll miss you Larry, I hope you are in peace.
