Larry Allen Wiers, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully at his home in Kalamazoo, MI, on December 26, 2024. Born on February 13, 1953, in Kalamazoo, Michigan, to Richard Wiers and Frances Rodenberger. Larry was preceded in death by brother, Garry Wiers, father, Richard Wiers, and mother, Frances Rodenberger. Each held a special place in his heart.
Larry's journey was one marked by dedication, hard work, and an unwavering sense of responsibility. After attending Comstock Public Schools, he completed his GED, a testament to his commitment to personal growth and education. His professional life took him on adventures to diverse destinations such as Denmark and Turkey, enriching his life with global experiences and broadening his perspectives.
In 1992, Larry accomplished one of his most proud achievements: building his own home with the help of family and friends. This home not only stood as a symbol of his handy skills but also became a haven of love, laughter, and memories for his family. Larry's generosity extended beyond the walls of his home, as he was always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need.
Larry's greatest joy and pride were his family. He shared a loving marriage with his wife, Judith Wiers, who will forever miss his companionship and unwavering support; a devoted father to his daughters, Sherri (Jack) Smith and Lynn (Tony) Perez, who will cherish the wisdom and love their father imparted upon them. Larry's sister, Mary Brouwer and brother John (Shani) Wiers will fondly remember their brother's good-natured spirit and infectious laughter. Larry's role as a grandfather to Holly Smith, Buster Cronkhite, Courtney Kiewiet, and Jack Smith, as well as a great-grandfather to Aubrey Emery and Emma Shields, was one of his greatest joys.
A true sports enthusiast, Larry's passion for the Detroit Tigers was unmatched. He enjoyed traveling to Florida for Detroit Tigers Spring Training and attending home games with family and friends. He was a long-time season ticket holder of the Kalamazoo Wings hockey team with his family. He relished every moment spent cheering on his teams. As a younger man, he enjoyed water skiing, speedboats, coaching softball and bowling, embracing the thrill of speed and competition.
Larry also enjoyed playing bingo which was more than just a pastime; it was a weekly ritual with his wife where he socialized and shared laughs with family and friends.
Those who knew Larry will remember him for his generous heart, his knack for fixing anything he put his hands to, and the loving warmth he exuded. His laughter, stories, and the lessons he imparted will continue to resonate with family, friends, and all whose lives he touched.
As we bid farewell to a man who meant so much to so many, we take solace in the joy and love he shared during his time with us. Larry's story is not one of an ending, but a beautiful reminder of the enduring power of a life well-lived.
There will be a celebration of life January 4, 2025 from 1-4 pm at the Comstock VFW 5990 E Michigan Avenue, Kalamazoo MI 49048
