Larry Wilson Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Heritage Funeral Home - El Dorado on Mar. 10, 2026.
Larry Wayne Wilson lived a life filled with music, laughter, hard work, and a genuine love for people. Born on September 14, 1943, in El Dorado, Larry was the son of Otto and Mary Maxine {Throckmorton} Wilson. He grew up in the community that would remain close to his heart throughout his life, attending local schools and graduating from El Dorado High School.
In 1964, Larry answered the call to serve his country when he was drafted into the United States Army. During his service he was stationed in Germany, an experience that helped shape the young man who would return home with a strong sense of dedication and responsibility.
After completing his military service, Larry began a long and steady career with Kansas Gas and Electric Company, where he worked in accounting and later transitioned into computer programming as technology evolved. He also spent time working for TD&E before eventually returning to KG&E, where he would spend many more years until his retirement. Through the decades, Larry was known as a dependable and hardworking employee who adapted easily to change and embraced new challenges.
Larry's life was also marked by love and companionship. He was first married to Kathleen Kerschner of El Dorado, and together they shared many years until her passing in the 1990s. Later in life, Larry found love again and married Rose Lusher in the late 2000s. Their relationship brought him great happiness, and they shared many meaningful years together.
Outside of work, Larry had a passion for music that never faded. He loved rock and roll and spent many hours enjoying and sharing the music he loved. For a time, he worked as a DJ, bringing energy and fun wherever he played. Music was only one of Larry's many interests. He enjoyed watching basketball and baseball, and he was an avid movie collector who could often be found adding another favorite film to his growing collection.
Larry was also well known around El Dorado as the longtime owner of the Blue Goose Tavern. The tavern became a place where friends gathered and stories were shared, and Larry was always at the center of it all. He was truly a character in the best sense of the word-someone who never knew a stranger and could strike up a conversation with anyone. With his easygoing nature and lively spirit, Larry loved to laugh, tell stories, and be the life of the party.
Family meant everything to Larry, and he cherished the many people who were part of his life. He is survived by his wife, Rose Wilson of Texas; his siblings Steve Wilson, Diane Wilson-Thompson, and Greg Wilson (Cynthia); his grandchildren Aurora Farmer (Jacob), Ian McCloud (Arlene), Brier McCloud, and Kristiana Lewis; and his beloved great-grandchildren Reggie McCloud, King McCloud, Birdie McCloud, Felix Farmer, Jude Farmer, Norah Farmer, and Everett Roberson. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will carry his memory forward.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Paige Lewis in August of 2008; his siblings Gary Wilson and Nancy Bishop; and his first wife, Kathleen.
Larry will be laid to rest at Sunset Lawns Cemetery beside his first wife Kathleen. While his passing leaves a quiet space in the lives of those who knew him, his memory will continue to live on through the laughter, stories, music, and friendships he shared so freely.
Memorial donations in Larry's memory may be made to Victory in the Valley, a cause that honors his life by helping others.
Larry will be remembered as a man who worked hard, loved deeply, enjoyed life fully, and never missed an opportunity to connect with people. His warm personality, unmistakable character, and joyful spirit will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing.
