Loren Kent Dodson, 79, of
El Dorado, Kansas, passed away on December 21, 2025, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, surrounded by his loving family. Loren's life was one of devotion-to his family, his faith, his work, and his community-and his legacy will be remembered with deep gratitude and affection.
Loren was born on July 27, 1946, in
Wichita, Kansas, to Roy W. and Mary K. (Lee) Dodson. In his youth, the family moved to El Dorado, where Loren was raised and attended school. It was there that he developed a love for baseball, spending countless hours on the field, and where he met the love of his life, Patricia, who would become his lifelong partner and greatest blessing.
His love of sports continued beyond school, as Loren played softball with the American Legion and his church well into his later years-playing until the age of 71, a testament to both his dedication and his spirited nature. Loren worked for many years at Beech Aircraft as a driller before answering a calling to serve and protect others. He went on to become a police officer, serving the communities of El Dorado, Mulvane, Meade, and ultimately the Butler County Sheriff's Office. Loren took great pride in his work, approaching it with integrity, commitment, and a strong sense of responsibility.
Faith played a central role in Loren's life. He was deeply involved in his church family, where he found fellowship, purpose, and joy. His faith guided him through life and shaped the way he cared for others.
Above all else, Loren cherished his family. He was a devoted husband to Patricia, a loving father to his children, Michelle and Kelle, and a proud grandfather to Brandon and Zachary. He also held a special place in his heart for his beloved dog, Mindy, who was a constant and cherished companion. Loren's love for his family was evident in both his quiet moments of care and his playful spirit.
Known for being a little ornery in the best way, Loren loved to tease and pick on those around him, always with a twinkle in his eye and a grin that let you know it was all in good fun. He enjoyed shooting and collecting guns and could often be found sharing stories, laughter, and good-natured mischief with friends and family.
Loren is survived by his loving wife, Patricia; his children, Michelle Dennison (J) and Kelle Kelly (Chris); his grandchildren, Brandon Kelly and Zachary Kelly; his brother, Duane Dodson; and many other relatives and dear friends who will miss him deeply.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Kathryn Dodson, and his brother, Donald Dodson.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to noon at Heritage Funeral Home, 206 E. Central Ave.,
El Dorado, Kansas, with parking available north of the building. A graveside service will follow at noon on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, at Walnut Valley Memorial Park in El Dorado.
In honor of Loren's deep love for animals, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made in his name to the Kansas Humane Society, 3313 N. Hillside,
Wichita, Kansas.
