Larry passed away peacefully at home in hospice after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer at the age of 82.
Larry was born in Onawa, Iowa to Robert and Vera Worrell. His family moved to Steamboat Springs in 1950. Larry, his brother and sister attended school at the Mesa schoolhouse at the base of Rabbit Ears Pass. Walton Creek was his favorite playground. He loved to ski and at age 9, joined the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club where he was coached by Gordy Wren. His family moved to Grand Junction Colorado when he was in the eighth grade. He missed skiing and always wanted to return to Steamboat. After graduating from Grand Junction High School Larry joined the IBEW apprenticeship program to become an electrician which was his lifelong occupation. He also learned to fly small aircraft and race motorcycles. He returned to Steamboat in 1970, and Larry met Lynn at the Steamboat ski area where she was selling tickets at the Christie ticket office. This was the beginning of a 50-year marriage. At this time, he worked as an electrician when Ski Time Square, The Tugboat and the Sheraton were being built. He also worked on the Hayden and Craig stations as they were being constructed. Before retiring in 2004 he worked as a maintenance electrician at the Craig powerplant. Larry's true joy in life was his family. Son Rob, daughter in-law Anje and especially his two grandsons Zane and Cody. He enjoyed biking, skiing, climbing mountains and camping with them. Anything outdoors. Larry served on the board of directors at the SSWSC and donated many hours on the hill, working at races and night shows. He was an active member of St. Paul's and served on the vestry. Larry was known for his adventuresome spirit. Larry and Lynn led bike tours in Vermont and loved sailing their sailboat "Heavenly Daze" in the Bahamas where they spent several winters. Larry enjoyed camping, jeeping and mtn biking in Utah. He is survived by his loving wife Lynn, son Rob Worrell, daughter in law Anje, grandsons Zane and Cody Worrell. Sister Sandy Cave and brother Steve Worrell.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday Aug. 7th at 11:00 am St. Paul's Episcopal Church.
In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to NWC Hospice or St. Paul's Episcopal Vincent's Music Fund. Care of the Yampa Valley Funeral Home Box 776090 Steamboat Springs, CO 80487
