John Sharitz Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Carmichael Funeral Homes - Smyrna on Feb. 5, 2026.
John (Jack) David Sharitz of Smyrna, Georgia passed away on February 2, 2026. Jack was born on December 30, 1960 at Hunter Air Force Base in Savannah, Georgia to Charles Joeseph and Mary Waller Soper Sharitz. He was raised in Sandy Springs, Georgia attending Liberty Gwinn Elementary School and then Graduating from Ridgeview High School. Jack was a three sport athlete in high school. He later went to Georgia Southern College where he was a proud member of the initial football cheerleading squad under the Erk Russell regime. He was a Kappa Sigma fraternity brother. After graduating college, Jack went to work for his father in Atlanta, but had a desire to move out west to Colorado to chase his dream of working independently. He eventually started a Residential Design/Construction business. Jack loved his community of Steamboat Springs making many friends and acquaintances. He spent many days playing in very competitive softball leagues during the summer and enjoyed skiing in the winter. Jack later moved from Steamboat Springs to Mesquite, Nevada where he started a fencing company. After many years out West, Jack decided to move back home and resided in Smyrna, Georgia. Jack never met a stranger as he was always very pleasant and full of good humor. Though he never married, Jack was a devoted and loving brother and uncle and really enjoyed spending time with all of them. Jack is survived by his Mother (Soapie Sharitz), his two brothers (TJ and Bobby), his sister-in-laws (Jaci and Virginia), and nieces (Rachel and Elaine) and nephews (Charlie and Daniel). Arrangements for Jack's memorial service will be announced by the family at a later date.

Bobby, TJ and family,

Sending thoughts and prayers to you all during this difficult time.

I have many fond memories of my time together with Jack at Georgia Southern and our years after college playing softball and hanging out in Atlanta.

Jack was such a good friend to me and my wife Angela. He was always so much fun to be with and had a huge heart. He would do anything for you.

Jack was at the opening night Atlanta Braves game the first time I introduced Angela to my friends and he made her feel so warm and welcomed. He was that way with everyone that he met!

I was blessed to have him in my life.

AEKDB brother, rest in peace.

With deepest condolences,
Andy Sharp
