George Brown Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Posey Funeral Directors - North Augusta on Feb. 3, 2026.
George "Duffy" Brown, of Jackson, South Carolina, made his transition to heaven Monday, February 2nd, surrounded by his loved ones. He was 72. Duffy was raised in Jackson and spent his life working in and serving the CSRA. His kindness and joyful spirit were the foundation of who Duffy was.

The best way to describe him would be in one word: fighter. Though Duffy suffered from a myriad of health issues throughout his life, he never let them define him or prevent him from living. As a child, Duffy suffered from asthma and severe allergies. Even after being advised not to play sports, he still took up baseball and basketball in his youth.

Duffy graduated from Jackson High school in 1971 and went on to get a degree in Communications from Georgia Southern University. In 1979, he went to Rhema Bible Training College in Tulsa, Oklahoma. There, Duffy fell even deeper in love with the Lord and gained a stronger passion to preach the gospel.

Through his life, Duffy made everyone he came in contact with feel special. Much of that trait can be attributed to his favorite grandmother, Janie Mae "Nanny" Steed Foreman. His Nanny helped instill good values and a loving heart to Duffy and he reminisced on her love and kindness often.

His heart's desire was to help people and no matter his trade or profession, that is what he did. Duffy loved his children and grandchildren and nothing brought him more joy than watching them prosper.

In his last days, Duffy spoke life, love, and wisdom to those who were with him. He spoke of freedom and the Word of God and let his family and friends know that he was at peace. Even in the most difficult circumstance, in the end, his faith never wavered.

Duffy was preceded in death by his father George P. Brown, his mother Joy F. Brown, and his sister Bonita Zimmerman.

He leaves a legacy behind in the form of his six children, Gabriel (Jennifer) Brown of Aiken, SC, Jordan (Kristin) Brown of North Augusta, SC, Sara Brown of North Augusta, SC, Zachary Brown of North Augusta, SC, John Brown of Jackson, SC, and Jesse Brown of Fairfax, SC; as well as his adored grandchildren Jeremiah Brown, Paisley Brown, Luke Brown, Samuel Brown, Becca Dunbar, Christian Walston, Graysen Hawkins, Riley Hawkins, and a great granddaughter.

Duffy is also survived by his brother Danny W. Brown of Jackson, SC, sister Joycelyn (Tim) Thompson of League City, TX and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

The family would like to thank the advanced heart failure team and the many doctors, nurses, and team members at Piedmont who looked after, cared for, and loved Duffy.

A celebration of life will be held Friday, February 13th at 12 p.m. at Matlock Baptist Church, 980 Main St Jackson, SC. The family will receive visitors an hour prior to service at 11 a.m. There will be an intimate graveside service at Jackson Memorial Park Cemetery following the gathering at Matlock Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations be made in Duffy's honor to Project Life at www.projectlifeaugusta.com or Matlock Baptist Church at www.matlockbaptistchurch.org.
