Lashanda Nicole Pope was born on May 29, 1979 to the late Lenzy Pope Jr. and Mable Beatrice Stewart (Cookie) in Oceanside, New York. She passed away peacefully on Monday, January 12, 2026. Lashanda was a lifelong resident of Elmont and a beloved member of the community.
She was truly the life of the party — her laughter was contagious, her energy unforgettable, and her ability to bring people together unmatched. Whether celebrating a milestone or simply spending time with friends and loved ones, she filled every room with joy, warmth, and love. Her vibrant spirit and generous heart left a lasting impression on everyone she met. Lashanda touched the lives of many and will be deeply missed.
She attended Sewanhaka High School and graduated in 1998. She went on to build a meaningful career as a Nassau County clerk for over 20 years. Lashanda was also a valued childcare worker at Robert J. McMahon Children’s Center- SCO family services. Lashanda was respected for her dedication, work ethic, and compassion. Her colleagues admired not only her professionalism but also the positivity and humor she brought to her workplace.
Lashanda is survived by her loving siblings, a brother, Jeremiah Pope (Christine) of East Meadow, NY; a brother, Jerome Pope of Elmont, NY; a sister, Dinesha Appleton-Ward (Nyeem) of Elmont, NY; a sister, Rose Brooks(James) of Aiken, SC. She was a proud aunt to Jamesha Bouknight, Jayden Pope, Jayda Pope, Jace Pope, Briell Petite, Mario Abney, Tyrese Abney; as well as extended family and dear friends who will cherish her memory forever.
Lashanda’s legacy of love, strength, and compassion will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
