Laszlo Hadnagy

Laszlo Hadnagy, 91, of Reading, passed away peacefully at home on February 14, 2026.

He was the devoted husband of the late Terez Hadnagy, with whom he shared more than 65 years of marriage. Born to the late Julia and Istvan Hadnagy, Laszlo was predeceased by his four brothers, Kalman, Ferenz, Istvan, and Jozsef, and his sister, Kati.

He is survived by his loving brother, Imre Hadnagy; his nephew, Brian Hadnagy; his niece, Lori Bernstein; his godchildren, Christopher Kollman and Kimberly Gordon; and many cherished nieces and nephews.

Laszlo was born and raised in Mór, Hungary, where he attended trade school and earned his certification as a tool and machinist. He proudly served for two years in the Army Air Corps in Budapest. In 1956, following his military service, he joined the Hungarian uprising against the Soviet communist regime. Later that year, in November 1956, he courageously left his homeland and immigrated to the United States, arriving by U.S. military plane in New Brunswick, New Jersey, to begin building a new life.

In 1957, Laszlo began his career with Western Electric Company in Kearny, New Jersey. In 1958, he married his hometown sweetheart in a ceremony officiated by a Hungarian priest. Their marriage of over six decades was a testament to faith, devotion, and enduring love, lasting until Terez's passing in 2023. Laszlo retired after 34 years of dedicated service, having worked for Western Electric and later AT&T.

Laszlo was a faithful member of Holy Guardian Angels Church. He had a deep love for bowling and hunting and found great joy in travel, visiting countries throughout Europe, as well as Australia, New Zealand, Indonesia, Italy, Spain, North Africa, Mexico, Canada, and many other destinations. He embraced life with curiosity, resilience, and gratitude for the opportunities his adopted country provided.

A viewing will be held Tuesday February 24th from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Stitzel Funeral Home, 3300 Kutztown Road, Laureldale, PA 19605. Burial will follow at the Chapel of Resurrection at Gethsemane Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Laszlo's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
