Laura "Jean" Abbott, born on July 25, 1934, in Raywick, Kentucky, departed this earthly realm on February 2, 2026, at Advent Health Waterman. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, Jean led a life rich with love, faith, and service.
She dedicated a considerable part of her career as a secretary for the Department of Defense at the Naval Ordinance Station, contributing her skills and work ethic to the greater good of her community and country. Although she pursued some college education, it was her unwavering commitment to her family, church, and various ministries that shaped her legacy.
Jean's life was marked by profound affection for her husband, Jimmie Abbott, with whom she reveled in moments of joy, traversing the landscapes of North America on motorcycle adventures. Their shared journeys stand as a testament to their unbreakable bond, showcasing a partnership filled with laughter, discovery, and mutual support.
Heavily involved in prison ministry, Jean was tireless in her efforts to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ, embodying the compassion and forgiveness she cherished. An active member of the First Baptist Church of Paisley, Florida, her faith grounded her and her community.
Her creative spirit shone brightly through her love for crafts, particularly in the meticulous creation of beautiful Afghans. Jean gifted these handcrafted pieces, generously sharing her talents with over a hundred recipients, ensuring that each one bore her unique touch and warmth.
Having resided in Bullitt County, Kentucky for 33 years, she then called Breckenridge County home for 6 years before making Florida her residence for the last two decades. The footprints of her life reflect her adaptability and resilience across diverse terrains.
Jean is remembered fondly by her surviving family: her husband, Jimmie Abbott; her sons, Kevin Hunt and his wife Dedra of Texas, Randal Hunt and his wife Diana of London, Kentucky; her daughter, Cheryl Bauman of Shepherdsville, Kentucky; along with seven grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
Jean’s legacy is bittersweetly shaded by the loss of beloved family members: her parents Henry Harden and Lena Ford Peterson; her first husband, Clifford Hunt; her dear brother, John Alan Peterson; and her sisters, Julia Rose Burress and Mary Lou Bower, alongside her great-grandson, Jonah Bauman.
Her visitation will be held on February 10, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Maraman Billings Funeral Home located at 605 South Preston Hwy, Shepherdsville, Kentucky.
As we reflect on Jean's life, we celebrate not only her earthly accomplishments but also the eternal impacts she has made on those blessed to have known her. May her spirit continue to inspire acts of kindness, creativity, and unwavering faith.
