Laura May Fleck

Laura May Fleck, 84, also known as Punky her whole life, passed away on December 20, 2025. She got the name Punky from the nuns at the hospital where she was born, they called her Pumpkin Seed due to her full head of red hair. Her family eventually shortened it to Punky, which stuck with her forever.

Punky was the oldest of 11 brothers and sisters. She married twice and had two boys, Brice, who has sadly passed away, and Peter. Brice was married to Laura's loving daughter-in-law, Beth Spinarski. Brice and Beth have a daughter, Connor. Peter has two children, son Carson and daughter Etta.

Punky was a lab tech at the University of North Carolina where she was very successful and prided herself on the work she did. She had quite the eye for detail for attention for her work.

She was an award-winning knitter and could perfect and craft anything that she endeavored, she often used her talent to provide for her family with her ability to work with leather by creating handbags and different leather needs for customers.

As she got older, she was able to focus more on crafts that she wanted to do. She was able to perfect her knitting and create different items that only an expert could create.

Punky was truly a person with a devotion for perfection. She will be missed and thought about fondly by all that knew her.
