Laura Guidry Smith, a cherished homemaker and devoted caregiver, passed away on October 24, 2025, in Broussard, Louisiana, at the age of 89 years old leaving behind a legacy that will be cherished by all who knew her. She was born on May 24, 1936, in Lebeau, Louisiana, where her generous and loving heart began to touch the lives of many.

Throughout her life, Laura dedicated herself to her role as a special caretaker and nanny for Steve and Beverly Wilson, and Jim and Gwen Burke. Her nurturing spirit and unwavering support created bonds that will be remembered fondly by those she cared for. Laura’s commitment to those around her provided comfort and joy to many, earning her the deep affection of family and friends alike.

Laura was not only a dedicated caretaker but also an avid lover of the outdoors. She found great happiness in riding horses and embarking on camping adventures with her good friends, Willie and Randy. Her love for nature was matched only by her adoration for her dogs, with whom she spent countless joyful moments. Laura often shared stories of her camping trips, filled with laughter and companionship that resonated with her warm and inviting personality.

In addition to her nurturing ways and adventurous spirit, Laura had a passion for collecting western and cowboy-themed items, a reflection of her appreciation for the rich culture and heritage of the West. This hobby brought her immense joy and allowed her to express her love for the great outdoors and the cowboy lifestyle.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Skip Montet Memorial Chapel at Lafond Ardoin Funeral Home in Opelousas, Louisiana. Father Clint Trahan will officiate the services. Rite of Committal and interment will follow at Sacred Heart Catholic Church Cemetery in Broussard.

Visitation will begin on Tuesday, October 287, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Skip Montet Memorial Chapel at Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home of Opelousas. A Rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday evening led by Deacon Mitch Hebert. The funeral home will reopen on Wednesday from 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m.

She is survived by her son, Edward Gauthier of Dupont; her daughter, Betty Bergeron and husband, Gillman of Broussard; special caretakers and grandchildren in love, Joseph and Karlee Roy of Broussard; her grand fur baby, Adam; twenty-three grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilfred “Will” Smith; two sons, Roy Smith and Clem Smith; her parents, Clem Guidry and Leola Perrio Guidry; two brothers, Louis Guidry and wife, Ettaline “Cat” Guidry; and Howard Guidry and wife, Elsie; four sisters, Lydia Riche, Ledie Wyble Marks, Emma Gauthier, and Alice Hicks; and granddaughter, Tanya Salazor.

The pallbearers will be Clem Duhon, Andre’ Roy, Daniel Duhon, Kent Benoit, Vorice Castille, and Kennon Wilson.

Laura Guidry Smith leaves behind a legacy of love, warmth, and a firm belief in the power of kindness. Her gentle spirit and unwavering support will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
