Our beloved wife, mother, and grammy, Laura Noreen Speer Toomey passed away Sunday, February 2, 2025 in Roy, Utah from natural causes. Laura was born to loving parents George and Ina Speer in Albany, California on July 8, 1956. She is one of 8 children. She grew up in Walnut Creek, California.

Laura is survived by her eternal companion and the love of her life David Toomey Sr., her children Jeremy (Michelle) Toomey, Julianne (Mike) Drury, daughter-in-law Teasha and 16 grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her sons David, Nathan and Matthew Toomey, her father, mother and 3 siblings.

Growing up Laura learned and loved to play the cello and piano. She later met Dave as young kids and their love never ended. They got married and were sealed in the Oakland, California LDS temple August 6, 1977 for time and all eternity.

Laura attended Ricks College, majoring in business and spent her early years working as a secretary for Beaver Insurance in San Francisco (where she and Dave shared their first kiss in the elevator) and then moved on to working as senior secretary at the LDS Church Office Building in SLC, Utah which she loved so much. Together Dave and Laura owned and ran two successful businesses, Laura’s Crafts and Toomey Pest Control.

If you were to ask Laura what she loved most it would be the San Francisco bay where she would hang out watching the seals and get the best sour dough bread on Pier 39 or playing at Pismo Beach in California. Laura loved her grandchildren immensely. It was important to her that her grandchildren always knew how much she loved them and how important they were to her. They were her world. She always wanted to be a part of their lives, asking how school was and what they did for fun. She always gave the best Grammy snuggles.

Laura was a very involved and loving wife, mother, grammy, sister and friend. When you walked in the room, she would greet you with the best smile and the warmest hug. She made sure that you felt important and loved.

Laura loved to travel. After graduating high school, she had the opportunity to spend time with her cousin and aunt in visiting and seeing the sights of Italy. She and Dave “went off the seat of their pants,” if they had an idea to run away on a little trip somewhere they would. She always said she had “the gypsy blood running through her veins” like her aunt.

She will be missed so dearly, but we feel the reunion in Heaven was a beautiful homecoming for her.

Graveside services will be held Tuesday February 18, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at the Centerville City Cemetery, 600 E. Porter Lane, Centerville, Utah. A viewing for family and friends will be held Sunday February 16, 2025 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Rd. Layton, Utah.

In lieu of flowers, we are asking for donations to help the family with the medical bills and unexpected funeral costs. If you would like to donate, please send donations through Venmo @Julianne-Drury (last 4 digits 9400)
