Lauren Maye Baker
Lauren Maye Baker, 67, of Chisholm, Minn., passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at Fairview Range Medical Center. Her sons, Ryan and Daniel, were by her side.
Born on February 20, 1958, in Cook, Minn., to Arthur and Ruby (Nystrom) Baker, Lauren grew up surrounded by the beauty of the north country. She enjoyed riding horses, being outdoors, and taking care of their farm animals. Her father Arthur is a United States Marine who fought in the Battle of Iwo Jima during World War II and subsequently received the Purple Heart for his valiant efforts. Arthur and Ruby had nine children, a farm, and bountiful land along Bear River that they tended to. Lauren was blessed to be surrounded by brothers and sisters and nieces and nephews that she cherished and adored. After attending Cook High School, she set out on life's journey, eventually moving to Virginia where she met and married Stephen Tuohy. They chose to settle and raise their family in Chisholm, not too far from where she grew up. Sundays and holidays were cherished traditions of family togetherness at her childhood home.
Lauren had a gift for making the world around her more beautiful. She had a passion for arts and crafts and loved making personalized gifts for family and friends. She was a talented artist whose work touched many lives. Her art has been displayed throughout businesses and government offices, including a special piece she created during Operation Desert Storm that was presented to the late General Norman Schwarzkopf Jr., United States Army. Mr. Schwarzkopf sent Lauren a personal letter thanking her for her support and her beautiful patriotic painting. Beyond her art, Lauren had a deep love for animals, especially horses, and a talent for gardening and cooking.
Family was the center of Lauren's life. She poured her love into her children and grandchildren, who were her greatest joy. Those who knew her will remember her warmth, her generosity, and her ability to make people feel seen and cared for.
Lauren's legacy lives on through her children: Ryan (Kayla) Tuohy, Faith (Josh) Farella, Daniel Tuohy, and Jackie (Mickey) O'Donohue; her siblings: Linda (OJ) Volkman, Sandy Baker, Mike (Claudia) Baker, Pat (Min) Baker, and Steve (Mary) Baker; and her beloved grandchildren: Layla, Luna, and Lucia Farella; Maverick and Archer Tuohy and Lillian and Ella Francke; and Shae O'Donohue.
She was preceded in death by her son Sean Tuohy; her parents, Arthur and Ruby; her sisters Pam (Bill) Wood and Ann (Larry) Pucelj; and her brother David (Tran) Baker.
