Laurence Allen Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Cremation Society of Madison on Jan. 11, 2024.

Laurence Darrell Allen passed away unexpectedly at his home on January 3, 2024. Larry was born on April 09, 1967, in Trondheim, Norway, the firstborn to Lisbeth and Frank Allen. The couple was delighted to be parents and settled in Lian, in the forests of Norway. The next year, Kristin joined the family, followed by Glen, Frank, and Lisbeth. His mother, Lisbeth, passed away in March, 1972. Larry grew up and had many adventures with his siblings and father. Larry moved to Racine in 1982, where brother, Tom, joined the family. The family moved to Madison in 1984. Frank Sr. married Yvonne and were blessed with more siblings–Shona, Debbie, Stewart, David, Miles, Brittany, and Kathleen.

Larry graduated from Madison East High School in 1985, and was known for his passion for technology. Following High School, Larry began his career working on computers in IT. He did coursework at Madison College, and received many IT certifications throughout his career. He worked in many different environments supporting K-12 schools and colleges, medical facilities, and even lab environments.

He joined the Navy in 1988 and served 4 years, then re-enlisted after 9/11. He served on several ships and his last command was USS Abraham Lincoln CVN 72. While on USS Abraham Lincoln, Larry was deployed to the Persian Gulf after 9/11 for Operation Enduring Freedom and Southern Watch. During his time in the Navy, Laurence served in various assignments and locations, exemplifying the core values of honor, courage, and commitment.

Following his honorable discharge, he pursued a career in Information Technology as a Telecommunications Specialist. Larry worked for Madison Computer Works, Golden and Associates, Rees Scientific, and American Girl. During this period, Tom, the 6th sibling, who grew up in England, came to America, and Larry was his mentor and they worked together at Golden and Associates. Larry enjoyed technology and excelled at learning new skills and staying up to date with current technology. He loved drinking gourmet coffee and collecting comic books and stamps, playing online games, and investing in the stock market. He spent many weekends through the years with his younger siblings, playing games, and enjoying each other’s company.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Lisbeth and Frank Allen. Larry was survived by: Kristin (Geir) Davik, Glen (Margie) Allen, Frank (Holly Nelson) Allen, Jr., Lisbeth (Mike) Wacker, Tom (Natalie) Allen, Shona (Brandon) Allen, Debbie Allen, Stewart (Jessi Fields) Allen, David (Cale Winebrenner) Allen, Miles (Eric Currier) Allen, Brittany (Eric) Holland, Kathleen (Axel) King, and Yvonne (Cliff) Hooks; as well as many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service to celebrate Laurence's life will be held on Monday, January 15th, 2024, at the Christ the King Community Church, located at 401 W. Main Street, Stoughton. The service will begin at 1:00 p.m. and will be followed by a lunch for family and friends.

The Allen family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude for the support, kind words, and condolences that they have received during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, the family will create a memorial at a later date.
