Laurence Ernest Davis, 87, of Clanton, Alabama, passed away on December 20, 2025, at UAB St. Vincent’s Birmingham.
Laurence was born on May 27, 1938, in Alabama, the son of the late Ernest Davis and the late Ruth Davis. He began his career as a butcher with A&P in 1956 and later retired from Family Mart in 2001. Throughout his life, he was known for his strong work ethic, steady presence, and unwavering devotion to his family and faith.
His favorite pastime was fishing, especially alongside his beloved wife and family. He was an avid Alabama football fan and rarely missed an opportunity to cheer on the Crimson Tide. Laurence found great joy in supporting his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren in all their endeavors and sporting events. He also loved tending to his vegetable gardens, nurturing them with the same care and patience he showed the people in his life.
Laurence loved the Lord deeply. He lived by a “see a need, fill a need” philosophy and served wherever he was called. Over the years, he taught Sunday School, drove the church bus, and most notably served as a deacon for many years. He was ordained as a deacon in April 1970 and was honored as a Deacon Emeritus by West End Baptist Church in 2022.
Above all, Laurence loved his wife, Peggy. They shared more than 69 years of marriage—a testament to their enduring commitment and partnership.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy Davis; son, Larry Keith (Bronnie Kay) Davis; daughter, Lauren Denise (Jeff) Deavers; son, Laurence Kevin (Annette) Davis; eight grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; brother, Olin Davis; sister, Debbie Jones; and sister, Janice Bradberry.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ernest Davis; mother, Ruth Davis; sister, Betty Nell Edwards; and brother, Ralph Davis.
Friends will be received on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at West End Baptist Church. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m., with Rev. James Watkins and Bro. Daniel Wilson officiating. Interment will take place at Martin Memorial Cemetery in Clanton, Alabama. Martin Funeral Home directing.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the West End Baptist Church Building Fund.
