Laurence Angelo Dy, 53, of Lincolnwood, IL, was born on May 25, 1972, in Manila, Philippines to Lauriano Dy and Betty Dy. He passed away on November 20, 2025, at Northshore Evanston Hospital with his brothers and sister-in-law at bedside. He was a loving brother to John Lord, Mary Roslyne (Dr. Edwin Raymond Balatbat), Marc Wrich, Hanz-Joseph (Marie Jeremy, nee Domingo) and Paul Alain (Mary Joyce, nee Ocenar). Loving uncle to Hailey, Maria Sophia Iris, Ira Matteo, Forbes Joseph, Flight Jeremy, Flaver Johnwell, Megan and Kyle Mason. Laurence obtained his bachelor of science degree in hotel and restaurant management in the Philippines in 1994. He was able to pursue his American dream when he arrived in the U.S. in 2001 doing a handful of responsibilities like serving as a branch manager in a well-known doughnut chain, as a medical office manager/administrator at his uncle's specialty clinic, and as administrative assistant in a home health agency, a nurse staffing agency and, most recently, in a nurse recruitment agency.

Laurence possesses an eclectic taste in music spanning from classical to pop to electronic dance to easy listening to contemporary Christian, filling his home with delightful sounds. He's also known for being an avid nature and animal lover. While growing up, he took care of a myriad of potted plants most notably his prized orchids, cacti, and roses. During his lifetime, he took care of dogs, cats, hamsters, guinea pigs, mynah, white mice, various fish, Korean lovebugs, rabbits, chickens, goats, parrots, lovebirds, pigeons, turtles/tortoises and even a monkey, a bat and a snake! He will be remembered for his friendliness, helpfulness, loyalty, and most especially his sense of humor to those who know him. Family would describe him as a "plant lover, a good cook/gourmet", and a patient and kind gentleman. Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 4, 2025, from 4 to 8 PM, with memorial service at 6:30 PM, at Smith-Corcoran Funeral Homes, 6150 N. Cicero Avenue, Chicago, IL.
