Laurence M Fahy

Laurence M Fahy, 84, son of the late W. Melvin and Charlotte (Higgins) Fahy Somerset passed away on January 28th, 2025, at his home surrounded by his family at age 84. Born June 8th, 1940, in South Berwick, he attended elementary school in St. Johnsbury, Vermont; before moving to South Berwick in 1953. He attended St. Michael's School and graduated from Berwick Academy, class of 1959. In 1957 during high school, he enlisted in the United States Navy reserves and after graduating he transitioned to Active Duty, serving aboard the U.S.S. Dealy and U.S.S. Sampson. He served across South America in Operation Unitas II, and in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He attained the rank of Petty Officer 2nd Class before his discharge in 1964.
In 1965 he met and married Sharon (Bray) Fahy and together they made their home with their 3 children in South Berwick until 1988 when they moved to Berwick. Larry entered the apprenticeship program at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in 1967 and graduated as a pipe fitter Journeyman in 1971. He retired from the Shipyard in 1992 and did various part-time jobs after retirement, the last was as a custodian at the First Parish Federated Church in South Berwick.
Larry was an avid reader and an active learner all of his life. He was an amateur astronomer, ornithologist, historian, stock trader and an avid sports fan. His favorite moments were spent with his family, and in the woods on hunting excursions with his sons and grandsons.
He will be greatly missed by his loving wife, Sharon of (59 years) and their three children: Kimberly Cole and her husband James Cole, Thomas P. Fahy, and Shawn O. Fahy and his wife Colleen. He is also survived by his 5 grandchildren: Caitlin Fahey and her husband Martin, Patrick O. Fahy and his wife Angela, Michael Fahy his girlfriend Joscelyn Kimball, Jason Cole, and Brian Cole. Larry also has four great grandchildren: Ailish M., Clare M., and Lucy M., (Daughters of Patrick Fahy), and Alyssa Fahey (daughter of Caitlin). He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Larry was predeceased by his Mother Charlotte, father W. Melvin Fahy, and his younger sisters Cynthia Winagura and Rosalie Remick.
Services: a time of visitation will be held from 3:00-6:00 PM on Wednesday, February 5 at McIntire-McCooey Funeral Home, 301 Main Street, South Berwick, Maine. A Funeral mass will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, February 6 at Holy Trinity Church, 404 High Street, Somersworth, New Hampshire.
