LAURENCE GOLDBERG Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Goldstein Funeral Chapel, Inc. on Jan. 12, 2026.
Laurence Goldberg, P.E.

Laurence Goldberg, P.E., born in Brooklyn, New York, passed away on January 11, 2026, at the age of 92.

He was married to his beloved wife, Joyce Goldberg, for 61 years until her death six years ago. Together they built a life grounded in commitment, shared purpose, and family. He is survived by his two children, Aaron and Brenda, and their spouses; two grandchildren, and their spouses; and five great-grandchildren.

Laurence earned a Degree in Civil Engineering from the City College of New York and later received a Master's Degree in Transportation Management, Planning, and Engineering from the Polytechnic Institute of New York. A licensed Professional Engineer, he dedicated his career to the planning, construction, and renewal of critical infrastructure that served millions of people every day.

Throughout his professional life, he played an important role in major projects across New York City. He was instrumental in the refurbishment of Morgan Station, one of the world's largest mail sorting centers. While working with the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, he managed numerous projects, including the modernization of the fleet of R42 subway cars, upgrades to the maintenance facilities at the Coney Island subway yards, and the construction of a bus maintenance facility in Queens.

Laurence was known for his exceptional work ethic, continuing to work until the age of 80. He had a lifelong fascination with railroads, both full-scale systems and model railroading, reflecting a deep respect for engineering, precision, and systems built to last.

In later years, he found a strong sense of community in Edison, New Jersey, where he was an active and engaged member of both the Jewish Community Center and Temple Neve Shalom. These communities were an important source of connection, purpose, and friendship.

Laurence will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and for the quiet, lasting contributions he made to the city and communities he served throughout his life.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 14, 2026.
