HOLDEN - Laurence “Larry” Rettig Sr, 70, passed away suddenly at his home, leaving behind family, friends, and countless lives touched by his generosity and humor. Born and raised in Holden, Larry was the beloved son of Heinz and Estelle Rettig.
He graduated from Wachusett Regional High School in 1973 and went on to work for Heald Machinery before joining the U.S. Postal Service, where he served his community for 15 years.
Following his time at the post office, Larry decided to follow his true calling-bringing joy to others-by becoming a full-time entertainer known as Flippo the Juggling Magician. Through magic, juggling, laughter, and balloon artistry, he delighted audiences of all ages and left an enduring mark on everyone who saw him perform.
Larry was a man of many passions. Self-proclaimed best Salsa maker ever, he loved his motorcycles, played guitar and keyboard, and even tried his hand at singing. He had a lifelong love of learning, performing, and sharing his talents. Always ready to lend a hand or a smile, Larry was a teacher, a helper, and a showman through and through. A proud Friend of Bill W. for 35 years, Larry was deeply dedicated to helping others achieve and maintain sobriety. His kindness, patience, and encouragement changed many lives for the better. He cherished time spent with his family, especially on trips and adventures together.
Larry leaves behind his loving wife Elizabeth, his son Larry and his wife Carly, his Stepdaughter Sue and her husband Rob, his adored grandchildren Pierce and Renee, Brother Heinz and Sister Holly and her husband Bruce. Larry’s laughter, creativity, and compassion will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who knew him.
Family and friends will gather to honor Larry’s memory at Calling Hours from 3:00 – 6:00 PM on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, at Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main Street, Holden. A Memorial Service will follow at 6:00 PM. In lieu of flowers the Family suggests that donations may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice in Larry’s name.
