Lavern Ray Larsen

Lavern Ray Larsen, 77, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of August 12, 2025, at the Harlock House.

Born on September 5, 1947, in Burke, South Dakota to Earl and Marie Larsen, Vern spent his early years moving frequently before settling in Paramount, California. He attended Paramount High School before being drafted into the U.S. Army, serving from 1966 to 1968 during the Vietnam War. A door gunner in combat, Vern was wounded in action and was awarded the Purple Heart, along with several marksmanship medals in recognition of his bravery and service.

After returning home, Vern earned his GED and went on to study business and psychology at Cerritos Community College. His professional journey led him to become a business partner at San Joaquin Aluminum Products, and in 1977, he proudly founded his own company, Aluma Shade.

Vern married the love of his life, Kathy, in 1974. They spent 51 wonderful years together, raising two sons and building a life rooted in love, strength, and dedication.

He was a man of many talents and accomplishments. Vern achieved a 10th-degree brown belt in Karate and was once awarded the Eagle Scout honor by Mayor Payne of Bakersfield after courageously apprehending a criminal and holding him until authorities arrived.

Vern found joy in outdoors-camping, fishing, and hunting-and loved spending quality time with family and friends. He was a passionate sports fan, especially of the Miami Dolphins and Los Angeles Dodgers.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Kathy Larsen, and his beloved sons, Bret and Scott.

A service to honor Vern's life will be held on August 27, 2025, at Green Lawn Southwest at 10:00 a.m., with a visitation beginning at 9:15 a.m. Interment with honor guard service will follow at 12:30 p.m. at the National Cemetery.

Vern's legacy of courage, compassion, and commitment will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
