LAVERNA A. KERN

The children of Laverna Kern mourn the loss of their mother on Aug. 5, 2023. She was born to Charles and Ann Link in St. Paul, MN, on Sept. 15, 1927. Laverna grew up in Aldrich, MN, and later moved with her parents to Wadena. She graduated high school in 1946 and married Ernest Kern in 1948.
They moved to Longview, WA, in 1953, and finally settled in Vancouver in 1965.
She is survived by her five children, Linda Lindsley and husband Roger, Stephen Kern, Kathleen Abels and husband Bill, Marilyn Richards, and David Kern and wife Laura; 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren
Mom was an amazing homemaker as well as a fabulous cook. She was a talented seamstress who sewed dresses for her girls and granddaughters, and later created beautiful handmade crafts.
She loved music, dancing, camping, beanbag baseball, and enjoyed her friendships at Kamlu and Van Mall Retirement Center.
In 2007, mom was diagnosed with bladder cancer, followed by breast and lung cancer. She took these cancers in stride as a true fighter. She was diagnosed with her fourth cancer in 2022.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, a beloved granddaughter, and her former husband.
