Croley Funeral Home - GilmerLaverne Richard "Dick" Davis passed away on October 9, 2025, in Tyler, Texas, at the age of 87. Born on November 10, 1937, in Watertown, South Dakota to Hugh Lawrence Davis and Sarah Elizabeth Smith Davis.
A proud veteran, Dick honorably served in the Army for 21 years with notable deployments in Korea and Vietnam. His commitment to his country was only matched by his dedication to protecting and serving the Dallas County community over the course of a 21-year career as an officer with the Dallas County Sheriff’s Department. Throughout his life, Dick exemplified the values of duty, honor, and perseverance—a true testament to his character and upbringing.
A man of deep faith, Dick was a devoted Christian who loved his church and cherished his church family. These communities were paramount in his life, offering him solace and support throughout his years.
Those left to cherish his memories are his wife of 34 years, Carolyn Ayers Davis; sons, Andy Davis and wife Connie of Jacksonville, Allen Davis and wife Krystal of Mansfield; daughters, Lori Motley and husband Donald of Gilmer, Brenda Mitchell of Winnsboro; sister, Miriam Smith; grandchildren, Ricky, Rhonda, Joshua, Mellisa, Amber, Megan, Ashley, Charlie, Dylan, Hailey and Ryne; great grandchildren, Wesley, Timothy, Brently, Hadley, Hendrix, Michael, Magnolia, Nova, June, Cassidy and Kyle.
He is preceded in death by his parents; 19 siblings; daughters, Rhonda Davis and Bridget Holt and grandson, Christopher Erik.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at Little Mound Baptist Church at 1:00 P.M.
