Lavine Whitaker, age 94 of Gatesville, passed away on Friday, October 20, 2023, at Coryell Health- Rehab Living at the Meadows.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 26, 2023, at Scott's Funeral Home with Dr. Lynn Parks officiating. Burial will follow at Restland Cemetery. Lavine’s family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service.
Lavine was born on April 22, 1929, in Whitesburg, Kentucky, to the late Watson Whitaker and Alma Mitchell Whitaker. The oldest of ten children, he grew up on a farm and graduated from Whitesburg High School in 1948. He worked in a coal mine in Kentucky and at a gas company in Baltimore, Maryland before serving in the United States Army during the Korean War. He married Daisy Ashby Hinesley on July 13, 1953, in Walnut Springs. Lavine retired after working 43 years at the American Desk Manufacturing Company in Temple. He was a member of Eastwood Baptist Church. Lavine enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family while camping at the river.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Daisy Whitaker, in 2010; sister, Lola Hogg; brother, Hiram Whitaker; daughter-in-law, Mary Kay Hinesley; and son-in-law, Billy Frank McGlothlin.
Lavine is survived by his sons, George Whitaker and wife, Penny of Gatesville and Lewis Hinesley and partner, Brenda Ward of Moody; daughter, Betty McGlothlin of Gadsden, Alabama; sisters, Wilma Holden, Mary Halcomb, Cena Graves, and Linda Day; brothers, Wood Whitaker, Willis Whitaker, and Wendell Whitaker; grandchildren, Karen McGlothlin, Joel McGlothlin, Bobby McGlothlin, Leah Guynes, Kari Vick, Lesli Baker, and Lauren Whitaker; great-grandchildren, Molly McGlothlin, Katy Provenzano, Dillon Baker, Levi Baker, Kolby Rocco, and Shelby Lara; and great-great-grandchildren, Magnolia Provenzano, Michael Provenzano, and Cole Rocco.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Eastwood Baptist Church, 2518 Main Street, Gatesville, Texas 76528.
