LaVon "Vonnie" Coleman, age 83, of Bulls Gap, passed away on Tuesday, September 9, 2025.
Vonnie was born to Alfred and Ruby Jones on June 12, 1942. She married Jim Coleman in June of 1969 in Pompano Beach, FL.She worked at East Tennessee OBGYN in Morristown for 20 years. Vonnie was saved at an early age and was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. She was an active worker in the church and enjoyed teaching Bible School. Vonnie enjoyed gardening and working in her flowers. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Ruby Jones; sister, Janie Matthews and brother; Gene Jones.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Jim Coleman; children, Rachelle Coleman, Les Coleman, and Jenny Coleman; grandchild, Hunter Coleman (Hannah); adopted family, Tim, Kim, Eligeh, and Isaiah Brooks; sister, Joyce Haselden (Bobby); brother, Dean Jones (Lois); and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family of LaVon wishes to extend their sincere thanks to special caretaker and friend of the family Sheradon Lindsey, and to Amedysis Home Health Care.
Visitation hours will be from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM Saturday, September 13, 2025 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held at 7:00 PM with Rev. Dannie Bell and Rev. Terry Bunch officiating. Graveside service will be held Sunday, September 14, 2025 at 1:00 PM in Courtney Cemetery. Anyone who is attending the graveside is asked to meet at the cemetery at 12:45 PM Sunday.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Jim Pinkston and Kevin Gentry, Pallbearers will be Les Coleman, Hunter Coleman, Eligeh Brooks, Tim Brooks, Gary Collier, and Don Holder.
