LaVon Mae Schultz

September 29, 1934 - March 23, 2025

LaVon Mae Schultz, 90, of Normal, passed away on Sunday, March 23, 2025 at home.

Her funeral will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 29, 2025 at St. Mark Evangelical Lutheran Church in Normal with Pastor Andrew Lindke officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. Kibler-Brady-Ruestman Memorial Home in Bloomington is assisting the family with arrangements.

Interment will be at East Lawn Memorial Gardens in Bloomington. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mark Evangelical Lutheran Church or to the donor's choice.

LaVon was born on September 29, 1934 in Watertown, WI, the daughter of Rodolph A. and Myrtle Emma Thiel Groth. She married George Frederick Schultz on October 20, 1956 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He preceded her in death on February 1, 2021.

Survivors include her children, Glenn (Jana) Schultz, David (Janine) Schultz, Kay (John) Mueller, and Jean (Tim) Hornseth; grandchildren, Jessica Schultz, Brian (Allie) Schultz, William (Sara) Schultz, Robert (Megan) Schultz, Benjamin Schultz, Nancy (Shaun) Brandon, Jennifer Hornseth; and eight great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, LaVon was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Don D. Groth and two grandchildren.

LaVon graduated from Girl's Tech and Trade High School in Milwaukee, WI. She graduated from Illinois State University and Martin Luther College. She was employed as a teacher and director at Little Lamb Preschool in Normal, and was a substitute teacher in Unit 5 and District 87 schools.

LaVon was a Sunday School teacher at St. Mark for over 30 years. She was active in various church groups at Trinity Lutheran (Bloomington) and St. Mark including LWMS and youth groups, attending national youth rallies. LaVon was a member of McLean County HCE for 67 years.

LaVon enjoyed traveling. She visited all 50 states and provinces of Canada and some of Europe.
