LaVonda Johnson Obituary

LaVonda Johnson, 84, passed away Monday, October 25, 2010 at The Cedars in Leo-Cedarville. Born in McClure, OH, LaVonda was a lifelong, accomplished pianist and organist. She started playing music in her teens and continued her music career by teaching and playing music. She published the Grover Hills News weekly newspaper. She worked as a Teacher's Assistant with East Allen Schools for 18 years. She then moved on to be a music teacher for preschoolers. LaVonda loved people and traveling, especially by train and bus to her destinations. She loved her family and being a grandma and great grandma. Surviving are her: Sons, James (Kathy) Johnson of South Bend, Peter (Vicki) Johnson of Fort Wayne, Patrick (Gindy) Johnson of Grabill, daughter, Jeanne (Richard) Zehr of Leo, sisters, Shirley J. Box of Grand Rapids, OH, Marilyn (Robert) Yawberg of Fort Wayne, 9 Grandchildren and 7 Great Grandchildren . LaVonda was preceded in death by her husband Thurman Johnson, parents, Frank H. (Marjorie) Culbertson. Service is 10:30 AM, October 29, 2010 at Leo United Methodist Church, 13527 Leo Road with one hour calling prior to service with pastor David Heim officiating. Calling at D.O. McComb and Sons Pine Valley Park Funeral Home, 1320 East Dupont Road Thursday, October 28, 2010 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm & 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm. Burial in Leo Memorial Cemetery, Leo, Indiana. Lavonda you were a good friend and I have lots and lots of good memories at your home for the Christmas holidays. We shared five wonderful grandchildren and one adorable Grea.t- Grandaughter. I didn;t get to see you much in the last eleven years because we moved to Florida but we will never forget you and Thurman. You have a very special family. Rich and Ginny Heckler
