Lavonne Chernault was born November 13,1930 and passed away peacefully at home October 8, 2025, at the age of 94. She was born in Meherrin, Va to the late Creed DeHart and Helen Lindsey DeHart.
Lavonne lived in Keysville, Va, with her husband Archie R. Griffith for 25 years where she raised her four children. She later moved to Farmville where she met and married Henry Chernault. They resided in Pamplin, Va. for several years. After Henry's passing Lavonne moved to South Boston, Va. where for 20 years she happily worked in her yard filled with her plants, played with her fur baby Happy, enjoyed her neighbors and fora few years sat with her first two little great granddaughters. She lived with her daughter Patsy and Eddie Mac Hamlet for the last five years of her life.
Lavonne was a member of Ash Avenue Baptist Church in South Boston, Va. where she loved singing in the choir and having lunch with her best friend, Faye Beck, many Sundays after church.
Lavonne was preceded in death by Archie Griffith, Sr., Henry Chernault, sisters Virginia Redd and Alice Throckmorton, brothers Wilbur and Norman DeHart and daughter Paulette G. Lawrence.
She is survived by her son Archie R. Griffith, Jr. (Carol), daughters Barbara Moore (Dan), and Patsy
Hamlet (Eddie Mac). Seven grandchildren - Casey Lawrence Cruz (Louis), Lori Thomas, Ryan Hamlet (Vanessa), Meagan Hamlet (Staples McDonald), Libby Hamlet Clay, Tim Hamlet, Bradley Griffith (Christina). Fourteen great grandchildren - Cody and Max Thomas; Ariana and Lainie Clay; Austin and Mason Cruz; Ella, Sabina, Kyle, Patricia and Paulette Hamlet; Maverick, Garrison, and Flint Griffith and her little step dog, Daisy.
A graveside service will be held Friday October 17,2025 at 2:00 p.m. at Trinity Memorial Gardens in Rice, Va.
