Lawfus Wayne Mitchell Sr. was born October 18, 1962 in Ocala, FL to Bishop Earnest Mitchell Sr. and the late Annie Thornton Mitchell. He is preceded in death by his grandmother Starletha Thornton and brother Earnest Mitchell Jr. He graduated from North Marion High School, Class of 1981. He attended MTA Trucking School in Orlando, FL. He drove for several years with Pritchett Trucking Company in Lake Butler Florida and was currently employed by Alachua County BOCC Solid Waste Management in Gainesville, Florida. Lawfus was a member of New Hope United Methodist Church in Citra, FL., under the Leadership of Reverend Jacqueline Doby.

Whether he was tending to his animals, working the farm, or enjoying his passion for firearms, he did so with a smile and a quick wit. He took immense pride in his family, always ensuring they were surrounded by his unique humor and love.

Lawfus entered eternity on January 21, 2026, after a brief illness.

He leaves to cherish his memories three sons: Lawfus Mitchell Jr. (Ashley), Kevin Mitchell. (Dorlisa), Byron Mitchell Sr. (Susan), one daughter Brittany Mitchell (Amanda), grandchildren: Quadarius, Nia, Byron Jr., Cameron Mitchell, Tyree Veal, Anquinetta, Toriyana, Taniyah, Enari, Myelle and Amar., Father: Bishop Earnest Mitchell, Sr., Sisters: Dolly (Bishop Christopher) Stokes, Jetty Mitchell and Penny (Austin) Long, Aunts: Mother Altamease Morley, Hollie Graham, Ann Nelson, Betty Nichols, Pastor Peggy Tuggerson, Brenda Alexander and Shandia Taylor, Uncles: James Thornton, Sr., Leonard Mitchell, Willis Thornton, Sr., Godson Frankie Alexander Jr. Goddaughter Jade Daniels, and Godbrother John Goggins. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, co-workers and other sorrowing friends.
