Lawrence Cariato Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by DeFiore Funeral & Cremation Service on Jan. 4, 2026.
Lawrence "Larry" A. Cariato, Sr., age 74, of Huntley, formerly of Chicago, passed away peacefully on January 1, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
Larry was born on September 8, 1951, in Chicago, the son of Louis and Eleanor (Nelson) Cariato. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Larry dedicated 32 years of hard work to Tempel Steel Company.
Larry took great enjoyment in fishing and was an avid fan of the Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs. Known for his stubborn determination, he fought his illness with remarkable strength and courage. Above all else, Larry's greatest pride and joy was his family-his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandson. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Larry is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Kathy Cariato; his children, Kevin (David) Cariato-Michalski, Kim (Lou) Carre, and daughter-in-law Becky Cariato; his eight grandchildren, Payton, Jake, Reagan, Gianna, Brooklyn, Ethan, Luka, and Gavin; and his great-grandson, Kayson Lawrence. He is also survived by his brother and sisters, George (Donna) Cariato, Karen (Dan) Jenkins, Lisa (Andy) Golz and his cherished fur baby, Charlie and many nieces and nephews to whom he was a fond uncle.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his "golden child" Lawrence A. Cariato, Jr.; his granddaughter, Martha Cariato, his brother Kenny Cariato, his mother-in-law, Dolores Busch, brother-in-law's Bobbie, Russell and Tony Busch
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, from 4:00–8:00 p.m. at DeFiore Funeral Home, 10763 Dundee Road, Huntley. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, 10307 Dundee Road, Huntley.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Larry's Red Bandana Society (lrbs.org) or the McHenry VFW.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to JourneyCare Hospice, especially Maggie, Paula, and Kyle, for their compassionate care and support.
