Lawrence Chapman
Born: May 28, 1941 | Died: Jun 6, 2025
Lawrence W. Chapman (Larry) passed away at the age of 84 in his home on June 6, 2025, surrounded by his beloved wife, Bobbi, and his wonderful children, Cynthia Anne and Daniel Lawrence.
He was a dedicated father who enthusiastically encouraged Cindy to utilize her creative skills, and she has become a sought-after artist in Boston and Nantucket. Larry also guided Dan with his golf, and he ultimately became a top-notch professional caddie.
Larry graduated with a business degree from Dartmouth College in 1963. He later established a soccer league in Fairfield County, Connecticut, and coached young players for numerous years. Always an athlete, Larry played tennis and golf, was on the Darien High School football team, was Captain of the Dartmouth College rugby team, and ran daily while working in the corporate world. He owned a cabin cruiser for many years and boated from Maine to the Cape Cod islands, and even cruised to New York City for the tall ships celebration on the Fourth of July, 1976.
Larry joined the United States Air Force in 1964 and flew throughout the Orient as a navigator on a B-52 bomber. He earned the rank of Captain during the Vietnam War.
In the private sector, Larry worked in national sales for Procter and Gamble, Clorox, and Nestle. In 1995, he became President of the National Retail Services Company.
On November 28, 2016, Larry and Bobbi married in Pomfret, Connecticut (two hundred years after her relative married a Chapman in the same town on the same date). Once retired, they travelled annually to visit friends and relatives in the Northeast. They took National Geographic ships to the Galapagos Islands and Antarctica, as well as touring on a small boat through The Netherland rivers. They ventured into Africa, staying in tents while guarded by Maasai warriors.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Bobbi; his beloved children, Cynthia Anne Chapman (Rich Richter) and Daniel Lawrence Chapman; his brother Charlie Chapman (Kristin); his sister Sally Elliott (Corky); his granddaughter Meghan Callan; his grandson Aidan Callan; Bobbi's son, Matthew Wolverton (Cheron); their twins, Joshua and Journey; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A private graveside service will be held with family and friends in New Canaan, Connecticut, in 2026.
