RICHMOND, Ind. - Lawrence Edward "Bud" Cox, age 97, of Richmond, Indiana, died Saturday, June 22, 2024, surrounded by family.
Born October 20, 1926, in Wayne County, Indiana, to Perry Clayton and Bernadine Menke Cox, Bud was a life-long resident of Richmond. He was a 1943 graduate of Richmond High School. Bud served in the United States Army during World War II. He worked at Hayes Track and Appliance for 14 years and started Cox Excavating in 1947. Bud married Sarah E. Baker Cox on November 12, 1967. He enjoyed his work and loved to give bulldozer rides to anyone who would ask. Bud drove racecars, liked to go boating and snow skiing, take vacations with Sarah, and watch basketball, especially Richmond High School. His grandkids meant the world to him, and he loved spending time with them.
Survivors include his wife, Sarah E. Cox; children, Darla Ball, Cindy Cox, Kelly (Randi) Cox; grandchildren, Jerry Toney III, Shannon (Clint) Wolfe Sr, Killian Cox, Kashmere Cox, Bronson Vogelsong; great-grandson, Clint Wolfe II; sister, Agnes Harsh; several nephews and nieces; many friends; and his loyal canine companion, Duke.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Barbara Jean Cheesman; and brother, John Donald Cox.
Visitation for Lawrence Edward "Bud" Cox will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, June 28, 2024, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 29, 2024, at St. Andrew Catholic Church with Father Sengole Gnanaraj officiating. Burial will follow in Earlham Cemetery - Veteran's Field of Honor with military honors provided by the Wayne County Honor Guard.

I lived many year next to Bud, Sarah and Darla on Abington Pike. I remember Bud always smiling and kind. My condolences to all.
