Lawrence Curtis Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Grace Memorial Chapel at Memory Gardens on May 28, 2025.
Lawrence C. "Buck" Curtis, 92, of Victoria, passed away on May 27, 2025 to be with the Lord. He leaves behind a legacy of love, jokes, laughter, leadership, and faith.
Buck was born April 23, 1933 in West Columbia (Brazoria County), TX to the late Bill and Nelda Curtis. He was raised on the Kittie Nash Ranch in Brazoria County where he was a rancher and rice farmer. At the time, this was the largest longhorn cattle ranch in Texas. Buck was a Volunteer Deputy for Fort Bend County for 6 years. In 1958, he moved to Bloomington, Texas to begin work as an Operator at Union Carbide, and later became an Electrician at the plant. He retired after 33 years with the company. Buck loved fishing, hunting, traveling, dancing, and playing his guitar, but most of all he loved spending time with family.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Rose Nitschmann Roller Curtis of Victoria; daughters, Ranee (Dennis) Reddick of Colorado and Lisa (Mark) Chovanec of Victoria; son, Shane (Jennifer) Curtis of Victoria; stepson, Bryan (Chris) Roller of Austin; 6 grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren.
Buck was preceded in death by his wife of 37 years, Winnie Fay Curtis, his parents, and his sisters, Evelyn Bertram and Doris Poole.
Pallbearers are Mark Chovanec, Clint Chovanec, Billy Melzow, Dennis Reddick, Bryan Roller, and Waylon Roller.
A visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, May 30, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. followed by a chapel service beginning at 11:00 a.m. at Grace Memorial Chapel, 8819 US Hwy 87N, Victoria, TX with Rev. Justin Reddick, officiating. Interment to follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of South Texas, 605 E. Locust Ave. Victoria, Texas 77901. We would like to thank Dr. Meyers and the staff at the Hospice of South Texas Dornburg Center of Compassion for taking such wonderful care of him.

Ranee, Shane, & Lisa~

My deepest condolences to you and your family in the loss of your dad. Buck was a special man, good friend, and a wonderful example. One of my fondest memories of him was how he handled me & Lisa´s request to take their tent to the Frio River and camp. In order to gain his approval, we had to learn to change a flat tire, and set up the tent on our own. Along with his detailed instructions and a lot of patience, we finally passed the test. Your dad was a wise man and I will never forget him.

Our sympathies and prayers for the family at this time. We only knew him as GeeGee and enjoyed visiting him when Rose and he visited Colorado one time. He lived a long life and we are sure there are many treasured memories.

I´ve known Mr Curtis for a long time. We met probably sometime in the early 70´s when he was selling a mini bike that Shane had blown the motor on, imagine that! My condolences to the family.Rest in peace, Mr Curtis
