Lawrence Davis Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Beers & Story Funeral Home - Belchertown on Jan. 8, 2026.
Larry Davis, aged 73, of Belchertown, MA, passed away peacefully early on December 30, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born on December 13, 1952, in Plymouth, MA, Larry moved to and lived in Belchertown for forty-five years.

The son of Warren and Ruth Davis, Larry grew up in Plymouth, graduated from Plymouth High School, and later attained a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Bridgewater State College.

He was predeceased by his parents and brother, Russell Davis. He is survived by Bonnie Prindle, his beloved wife of 47 years; his daughter Julia and her husband Mark, his son Jack and his wife Cristina; as well as his cherished grandchildren, Andrew, Samantha, and Theodore. He also leaves behind his two brothers, Richard and his wife Debbie, Bill and his wife Beth, and his close cousin Carol.

His career entailed working as a Health Inspector at UMass Amherst for over thirty years. Beyond work, Larry was a man of many hobbies. He enjoyed windsurfing in Hatteras, North Carolina, was an avid fitness enthusiast and a lifelong fan of the New England Patriots. After his retirement, he expanded his hobbies greatly, enjoying all things outdoors. This included hiking throughout New England, kayaking on the Swift River, biking, and of course pickleball. Larry was one of the early supporters of pickleball in Belchertown and served as a coach, fundraiser, and town hall "lobbyist" to bring pickleball courts to Belchertown. Larry was also a longtime member of the Belchertown United Church of Christ, where he served on a number of committees and frequently volunteered his time.

Larry was always known for his eternal optimism and personal motto "Life is Good," and this continued throughout his battle with Multiple Myeloma. He was aways eager to carry on a conversation with whomever happened to be in his presence, and as a result he had many friends from all over.

Larry's family will hold private services.

I was lucky to work with Larry at UMass for a couple of years before his retirement. He was one of the most dedicated employees I have ever met. Even though he had to deal with a lot of issues including Guinness record setting food preparations, summer camps, housing issues, dining operations and student cookouts etc. he always handled it with good cheer and calmness. I got to go on inspections with him (to try and fill his shoes when he left) dealing with pests, food allergies, housing complaints and even the operation of the Zamboni machines and it was always interesting. He was known by all on campus and was generally appreciated by everyone for his guidance and demeanor. My condolences to his family and friends. I hope he has caught a good wave this time and rides it well.

Kelley and I were very sorry to have heard of the passing of Larry, and to his entire family we offer our deepest sympathies. I had the pleasure of working with Larry for 13 years in the office of Environmental Health and Safety at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. He was a truly dedicated professional who strived hard to maintain health and sanitation across campus, as well as for towns in the communities around the University when asked. He did his work with both strength of knowledge and engaging personality. Larry was dedicated and extremely nice to work with. It would have been fitting for him to have enjoyed a significantly longer retirement to share with his family and friends, but we are sure he was called upon to serve additional important roles.
With our collective best wishes to his family.

Larry was a wonderful guy and, as stated in the obit, he always had a positive spirit. He one of my best employees at UMASS and was well liked by those that faced his public health compliance visits, including earth foods. He was firm but caring and respectful. I had the privilege of visiting him in rehab and he was cheerful and we had a time of prayer together. He had a strong faith and knew that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. Condolences to Bonnie and the family. God bless
