Lawrence Richard Degenfelder

Lawrence Richard Degenfelder passed away at Corewell Health Beaumont Hospital in Troy on Monday, October 27, 2025 at the age of 75.
Larry was born on November 10, 1949 in Detroit, Michigan to Charles and Lillian (nee Upham) Degenfelder. At 17, Larry joined the United States Army and honorably served during the Vietnam War until his release from his reserve obligation on November 14, 1972. Throughout his time in the service he obtained a National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 4 Bronze Stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal and Aircraft Crewman Badge. After his time in the service, Larry furthered his education and completed his studies with a Masters Degree. On June 24, 1972, he married the love of his life, Cathy Brown and they shared 53 wonderful years together, raising their family and making memories. Larry worked as a sales manager for AGFA Healthcare for over 25 years before retiring in 2006, only to go back to work for Konica Minolta and retire a second time in 2011. His family was always his priority and his devotion to them was evident in his life. Larry enjoyed boating, shopping, traveling to Florida with Cathy for the winters, cooking and socializing at any Happy Hour available. He was loved beyond measure by his family and had a huge giving heart. Larry will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Larry is survived by his wife, Cathy; sons, Jeffrey (Rebecca), Scott (Maria) and Lawrence (Jamie); grandsons, Dominic, Michael, Nathan (Lauren) Coolbaugh and Justin Eyk; six great-grandchildren; siblings, Sue (Joe) Schmitz, Charles (Judy) and Sheryl Groves; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Larry was preceded in death by his parents.
Larry will be laid to rest privately in Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan. The memorial celebration will be at Ernie's on Saturday, November 15th at 12:00 p.m. The address for Ernie's is as follows: 16655 19 Mile Road, Clinton Township, MI 48038.
