Lawrence Wayne Fluharty, 96, of Fairmont, passed away at the Louis A Johnson VA Medical Center in Clarksburg on May 31, 2018. He was born on August 05, 1921, in Mannington, the son of the late Scott Fluharty and Grace (Rockwell) Fluharty. Lawrence was a proud Veteran of the United States Army, serving his country in France and Germany during World War II. He retired from Monongahela Power with 39 years of service as an electrician. He was as a longtime member of the Elks Lodge 294 in Fairmont, VFW Post 7048, and the Fairmont American Legion. He is survived by his wife of 76 years, Pearl (Hibbs) Fluharty, of Fairmont; son, Larry W. Fluharty and wife Debra, of Fairmont; grandsons Matthew W. Fluharty and wife Mandy, of Bridgeport, and Mark A. Fluharty, of Fairmont; and great-grandson Vincent W. Fluharty, of Fairmont. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Evelyn (Fluharty) Berger, and his brothers, Harry Fluharty and Tom Fluharty. He will be remembered for his many golfing trips with his wife, Pearl, and for helping his family and neighbors with any mechanical or electrical issue they had. Friends and family are invited to call at Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant Street, Fairmont, on Sunday, June 3, 2018 from 1pm-5pm, with services being held on Monday, June 4th at 11am at Carpenter and Ford. Interment will follow at West Virginia National Cemetery, with Full Military Honors conducted by the Marion County Veterans Council Honor Guard.
