Lawrence J. "Larry" Flynn Jr.

Lawrence J. Flynn, Jr., 83, of Millbury and formerly of Islamorada, FL, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 8, 2025.

Born in Worcester, Larry was the son of the late Lawrence J. Flynn, Sr., and Ann (McGuirk) Flynn. A graduate of Sacred Heart Academy and later Worcester State College, Larry answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Army. Stationed in Germany as a Forward Artillery Observer, he served proudly until his honorable discharge in 1966. Then he went on to work as a Night Control Operator for ADT.

But Larry's true calling was the sea.

A free spirit at heart, he fell in love with sailing and never looked back. He sailed his boat from Boston to Islamorada, FL to build a life. For thirty years the Florida Keys was his home. Each spring he would make the journey north again to spend time with family. He operated a charter boat and worked at a marina, always happiest when near the water.

Larry truly marched to the beat of his own drum. He was kind, generous, and quietly thoughtful. He loved deeply and had a soft heart for animals.

He leaves his brother, Kevin Flynn, and his wife Diane of Auburn; his sister Sally Palermo of Millbury, with whom he lived; his sister-in-law, Barbara Flynn; and his nieces and nephews who were the inspiration for the name of his boat- Shamas P- Shannon, Heather, Ann, Marty, Anthony, Sean and Padraic. He was predeceased by his brothers, David and Dennis Flynn; and a brother-in-law, George Palermo.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to your favorite animal charity or local shelter of your choice.

Per Larry's wishes, after cremation, he will be scattered in some of his favorite locations in Florida.
