Lawrence L. "Larry" Lustig, 89 of Napa, California, formerly Effingham, Illinois, passed away in his home at 1:00 am PST on February 25, 2025 with his son Ron at his side.
Internment to be March 12, 2025, at 11:30 am PST at the Dixon VA Cemetery Sacramento, CA with full military honors.
Larry was born in Effingham on January 20, 1936 to Lawrence J. and Arnieta L. Lustig.
He served as a master sergeant in the US Air Force and retired in 1977, at which time he went to work for the State of California.
Survivors include daughter Roxanne (Ernie) Guerra, sons Ron (Sally) Lustig and Rob (Susan) Lustig; grandchildren Crystal, Noah and Kyle, great-grandchildren Raymond and Ashley, all of California, and one sister, Anna L. Fasig of Effingham.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers Harold Lustig, Louis Burnell Lustig, and Arthur Lustig, and one sister Margaret Skitlman.
Larry loved to kayak, to fish and to howl at the moon. He was an avid reader and particularly fond of author Louie Lamour.
Larry could never pass up a card game, especially if it were Pinochle. He honed his skills playing along with the card sharks in the Lustig family. And later with his close friends when he retired to Lake Oroville.
Among his many other joys in life were baseball, basketball and women's softball, shooting sporting clays, cooking, drinking red wine, listening to Frank, Dino and Tony, and watching old Western movies.
One of his favorite quotes was from Francesca Reigler which reads, "Happiness is an attitude. We either make ourselves miserable or happy and strong. The amount of work is the same."
Larry was a good friend to many and rarely had a bad thing to say. He was a person who believed in Faith, Family and good Friends.
Donations to the American Heart Association in Larry's remembrance are sincerely appreciated
