Manion, Lawrence George

Lawrence George Manion, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 30, 2025, at his home in South Charleston, Ohio. Born on August 18, 1946, in Chillicothe, Ohio, Lawrence lived a full and honorable life, marked by dedication to his family, his country, and his community. Lawrence's early years in Chillicothe laid the foundation for a life of service and passion. The son of the late Ocie Saltz McClaskey and Lawrence C. (Doris) Manion, he grew up with a strong sense of duty, which he carried with him throughout his life. His siblings, Peggy Hupp, Kelly Manion, Jamie (Paula) Manion, and Dakota Applegate, remember him as a protective and loving figure, while he was preceded in death by his brothers Marty Fawcett and Jeff Manion, and his son, Lawrence G. Manion II. Lawrence's devotion to his country was evident in his proud service as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps. His patriotism continued long after his military service as he remained actively in-volved with the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1031, the Eagles, and the Disabled American Vet-erans. After his military service, Lawrence found love and companionship with his beloved wife, Darcus Manion. Together, they built a life centered around family and shared joys. Their children, Matthew (Julie) Manion, Brian (Amy) Trimble, Vincent Summers, April (Joe) Smalley, and Amanda (Shane Knight) Summers, were Lawrence's pride and joy. He instilled in them the values of hard work, integrity, and love for family. Lawrence's legacy continues to thrive through his twelve grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, who will remember him for his boundless love and the wisdom he imparted. Lawrence had a passion for life's simple pleasures. He was a skilled craftsman in woodworking, and leatherwork and an enthusiastic model airplane builder and bow-ler. His love for animals shone through in his work as a horseman and his active membership in the Ohio Horseman Council. Lawrence's hobbies were more than pastimes; they were extensions of his character, reflecting his patience, precision, and joy in life. A family-oriented man, Law-rence's greatest happiness was found in the time he spent surrounded by his loved ones. He was the cornerstone of family gatherings, sharing stories, laughter, and guidance. His presence was a source of stability and warmth, and his absence will be deeply felt by all who knew him. Law-rence George Manion lived a life that exemplified honor, commitment, and love. As we bid fare-well to this remarkable man, we celebrate the enduring impact he has left on the hearts of his family, friends, and community. His memory will be treasured, and his legacy will continue to in-spire generations to come. Services will be held at the JONES-KENNEY-ZECHMAN Funeral Home on September 4, 2025. Visitation will begin at 12:00 noon with Funeral Service at 1:00PM. Burial will follow at the Lawrenceville Cemetery. Arrangements are being made by JONES-KENNEY-ZECHMAN FUNERAL HOME.
