Lawrence Metzger Obituary

Lawrence Allen Metzger passed away after a short illness on December 23, 2023. He was born February 2, 1945 in LaGrange, Texas to Lawrence August Metzger and Dorothy Ester Schaefer-Metzger. Early in his childhood the family moved to Harper, Texas where Lawrence would call home. He graduated from Harper high school class of 1963 and after studying at South West Texas in San Marcos, he decided to attend Spartan school of aeronautics Tulsa, Oklahoma. He graduated in 1966 and returned to Texas to work in various shops including Weston in Kerrville, Tiny's instrument service in San Antonio, and BF Goodrich in Austin. He enjoyed his work and specialized in repairing aircraft altimeters.

Lawrence never married or had children, but enjoyed visiting with his friends and family. Known to many as a kind and generous man, it was no surprise after the untimely death of his brother, Lawrence developed a close bond with his niece, Lauren. Much later in his life and as his health began to decline, he went on his last adventure living with his family in New Hampshire.

Lawrence loved cars, NASCAR and drag racing. He also enjoyed woodworking, pool, pitching washers, rock hounding, coin collecting, photography, and Sudoku at various times in his life. Let's not forget all his great stories, the Pizza and Mt. Dew!

Beside his brother Langford, Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his brother Frank Metzger of Summerville, SC, his children Janice Jones, Frank Metzger and their families. His Niece Lauren Jodoin, her husband John and daughter Haley. In lieu of flowers donations should be made to the St. James Lutheran church in Harper, the Harper volunteer fire department or the Harper Community Chest.

Services to be held 2:00pm January 27, at St. James Lutheran Church, 23932 US-290, Harper, TX, with a reception following the interment at Harper Community Cemetery.
