Lawrence Pound Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Birdsong Cremations on Feb. 19, 2026.
"Blessed is the man... whose delight is in the law of the Lord." -Psalm 1:1-2

Lawrence Lee "Larry" Pound lived eighty years as a devoted servant of his community, his family, and his faith - from his birth in Port Arthur, Texas, on September 27, 1945, to his passing in Houston, Texas, on February 9, 2026. He carried himself with discipline, conviction, and a servant's heart that left a lasting mark on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Born to Homer Jay Pound and Barbara Abrams Campbell, Larry descended from Mayflower settlers with deep New England roots. He grew up in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, worked as a lifeguard and water safety instructor, and earned a black belt in karate before he finished high school. He went on to earn both his BA and MBA from Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida. A gifted linguist, he achieved fluency in four languages: English, Spanish, French, and German. He began his career at General Electric, moved into oil and gas in Houston, and finished in real estate - where he became a premier listing agent for more than twenty years, his reputation built primarily on honesty and trust.

If real estate was Larry's profession, community service was his calling. As President of the Walnut Bend HOA, he led the complete modernization of the community's Recreation Center, pool, and land assets. He served as Precinct Chair, oversaw every election, and attended local and state conventions. He believed citizenship meant showing up - and he always did.

Faith was the foundation of his life. A devoted member of Second Baptist Church, Larry joined the choir around 1990, serving as Director of Inreach and a featured bass performer in multiple musical productions. He sang on the Praise Team, led Bible study, and participated in mission projects. In 2007 he was ordained as a Deacon - a distinction he wore with quiet pride.

At Rollins College, Larry met Johnna Brand, who would become his lifelong partner. Their marriage of fifty-five years was rooted in deep friendship, loyalty, and shared joy - they loved to dance, hike, travel, and explore the world together. Johnna was by his side from beginning to end.

Larry was a hands-on, fiercely proud father who coached his son's soccer teams, ran and trained alongside his kids, and challenged them to reach their potential. With his daughter, he restored a 1975 Volkswagen Super Beetle to vintage show quality - a project that captured exactly how he loved. He adored his daughter-in-law and in his eyes his granddaughter could do no wrong. In his final days, his face still lit up when he heard her voice calling from Paris.

Larry is survived by his wife, Johnna Brand Pound; son Perry J. Pound, his wife Victoria Normington Pound, and their daughter Aria Savannah Pound; his daughter Jennifer Cousins and her fiancé Will Drinkwine; and his siblings Dave Pound (Sher), Doug Pound (Cathy), Kevin Pound (Ruth), Linda Ellis, sister-in-law Lynell Brand Kennedy, and brother-in-law Kim Kennedy. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Chuck Campbell.

Larry Pound was a pillar - of his church, his community, his profession, and his family. He served without hesitation and left every room better than he found it. Those who knew him have no doubt he heard the words he spent his life earning: "Well done, my good and faithful servant."
