Larry, as he was affectionately known, was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. His journey on earth was one marked by love, compassion, and an unwavering faith in God. His passing has left a void in the hearts of those whose lives he touched. We ask that you remember him not for the way he passed, but for the way he lived and the profound impact he had on the lives of those who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Larry is survived by his loving wife, Julie, and his seven children, Debbie Antonangeli, Chris Shackleton and his wife Shauna, Jason Shackleton and his wife Toni, Stephanie Dyer and her husband Rod, Scott Shackleton and his wife Ashley, Kelli Yuzon and her husband Ray, and Brad Shackleton and his wife Tiffany. Forever cherished and remembered by his twelve grandchildren, Haleigh, Zach, Keegan, Spencer, Evan, Alex, Hayden, Jeff, Mackenna, Rylea, Chad and his wife, Brittany, Nick and his wife, Breauna, and great-grandchild Madeleine.

Larry was born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA. After graduating from Washington and Jefferson University in 1968, he joined the United States Army. He was a proud Vietnam Veteran retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1992 after 24 years of service. After retirement from the Army, he went on to work for Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA as a Vice President of Administrative Systems and Information Management and University Registrar where he remained until retiring in 2013.
Larry was an avid golfer and enthusiastic Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers fan. He was an active member of his church where he served as Deacon prior to his retirement from Liberty University. He had an unquenchable thirst for knowledge and a love for teaching. He enjoyed traveling, home renovations, reading, crossword puzzles, and most of all being surrounded by his family.
A celebration of Larry's life will take place at 1:00pm, October 18, 2025 at Life Point Church (159 Porters Neck Rd. Wilmington, NC). The family will receive friends after the service at the Resident Lounge, Oak Grove at Blake Farm (49 N Assembly Dr. Wilmington, NC).
