Lawrence J. "Larry" Stern

Lawrence James "Larry" Stern, 74, of Kalkaska, passed away on Wednesday, November 19th, 2025. He was born on January 21st, 1951, in Detroit, Michigan, to Melvin and Mildred (Templin) Stern. Raised in Detroit, he graduated from Lutheran High School West in 1969. Larry spent 30 years with Chrysler Automotive at the Trenton Engine Plant. After retiring, he moved to Kalkaska, where he enjoyed the hobbies he loved most. He spent many happy days boating on Torch Lake, tinkering with his vehicles, riding his Harley in his younger years, and snowmobiling with his buddies. Larry was known for his sharp sense of humor, good-natured sarcasm, and he enjoyed going out to dinner with friends. Larry will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 39 years, Debra (May) Stern; daughter, Melanie Sanford; son, Adam Stern; brother, Bob (Joyce) Stern; sister-in-law, Caroline Stern; six grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Rick Stern D.D.S. A funeral service will be held on Monday, November 24th, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Kalkaska Church of Christ, with visitation beginning one hour prior. A burial service will follow on Tuesday, November 25th, at 10:00 AM at Coldsprings Township Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Larry's honor may be made to the Live Well Kalkaska Substance Free Coalition.
