March 1, 2022. Age 73. Loving father of John (Liz) Szambelan. Adored grandpa of Eva and Julia Szambelan. Cherished son of Irene and the late John Szambelan. Beloved Brother of Chrissy (Ed) Sprock, Robert (Sara) Szambelan and Sharon (Mike) Manzo. Larry lived an active life and was involved whenever he could lend a hand. Larry spent many years as a Boy Scout leader, involved with St. Vincent de Paul Society and as a member of the Moose Lodge. Larry enjoyed a round of golf, hosting poker games and playing racquetball. He loved to travel. He also enjoyed discussing politics with friends and family. More than anything, Larry loved his family and was devoted to helping and caring for them. He was affectionately known by many as "Big Lar". Larry's one of a kind personality and even bigger heart will be dearly missed. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Evans Scholars Foundation or First Tee - Greater Detroit. Visitation Sunday 2-9pm at Wujek-Calcaterra & Sons, Inc. 36900 Schoenherr at Metro Parkway (16 Mile). Instate Monday, March 7, 2022 at 9:30am until the 10am Mass at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church (22412 Overlake St., Saint Clair Shores 48080). Interment Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
