Lawrence Underhill Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Duyck & VanDeHey Funeral Home - Forest Grove on Aug. 14, 2024.
Lawrence Dean Underhill, renowned Pacific Northwest Landscape Architect, passed on August 4, 2024, at age 97, of natural causes.
Lawrence was born in Hartford, Iowa. His family were farmers and owned a farm in Ladora, Iowa. His love for horses began at a young age and would always be with him. He spent many years in the early 90's with HELP, the Handicapped Equestrian Learning Program in Washington. He shared his knowledge of horsemanship, to help bring together horses and individuals with emotional and physical disabilities.
Lawrence was survived by his three children and seven grandchildren. Christa Seyferth and sons, Cameron Seyferth and Colby Seyferth; Corey Underhill and his wife, Brantlee, and children, Missy Apple with her husband Cam, Joshua Underhill and Kai Underhill; Craig Underhill and his wife, Heidi, and sons, Colton Underhill with his wife Allison, and Riley Underhill.
Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Viola Underhill, and five siblings; brothers, Forest, Laurel and Eugene, and sisters Flossie and Trula.
The Underhill family moved west from Iowa and settled in Seaside, Oregon, where Larry would graduate from Seaside High School. After high school, he joined the Army and served as Military Police while in Korea. After serving his country, he returned home and graduated from Oregon State University, with a degree in Architecture. He would become one of the most sought after architects in the area. Larry won many awards for business and residential design.
Lawrence was involved with The American Legion and local Elks Lodge for the remainder of his life, making many friends along the way.
His caring nature will always be remembered, as his greatest joy was making people happy.
A memorial service will be held in the near future, when the family can be together.
