Charles Roscoe "Charlie" Schmidlin

Charles "Charlie" Roscoe Schmidlin, 64, a resident of the Mountaindale community passed away on February 1, 2026 at his home (from congestive heart failure).

He was born on December 19, 1961 in Forest Grove, OR. He was the second of two children born to Paul and Jean (Benefiel) Schmidlin. He was raised on the family dairy farm and attended Banks School district graduating from Banks High School with the Class of 1979.

Charlie was a farmer all of his life. He helped on the dairy farm in his youth with his father and uncle and later with only his father on the farm in Mountaindale.

In his youth he enjoyed flying the remote controlled airplanes with his cousins. He enjoyed fishing in the pond at home and in the nearby rivers during steelhead runs. He stocked the pond with bass and crappie which he would catch and release. Occasionally catching a small one and feeding it to his favorite barn cat. Blueberries were his favorite fruit followed closely by figs that he would harvest and dry. His acrylic paintings depicted scenes of fishing and nearby landscapes. In March of 2024 while hospitalized (for broken ribs) the family home was destroyed by fire.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his sister, Edith Reid of Banks, a niece and nephew, Vanessa and Jake and four grand-nieces and nephews.
