Leafy Lenora (Bixler) Hoffman of Shoals, IN, known by her loved ones as Peggy, passed away age 76 at Keepsake Village of Columbus peacefully in her sleep after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Dementia.
Born February 7th, 1949 to Ernest Edward Bixler (Pete) and Martha Agnes (Butcher) Bixler in Spencer, IN, Peggy was the sixth of twelve children. Free time was spent playing cards or maintaining her many gardens and vast yard. She attended Calvary Lutheran Church (Bedford) then St. John Lutheran (Loogootee), then finally St. Peter’s Lutheran (Columbus) regularly and continued to watch available broadcasts after becoming homebound.
Peggy is preceded in death by her husband of forty-six years, Stephen W. Hoffman; her parents Pete & Agnes Bixler; and nine siblings: David “Leon” Bixler, Martha Deem, Shirley Mae Bixler, Margret “Ann” Allen, Ernest “Michael” Bixler, Elvin Lee Bixler, Ellis Wayne “Tub” Bixler, Stanley “Joe” Bixler, and Russell Bixler.
She is survived by her children Lenora Craft and Donel (Terry) Hovis, and grandchildren: Stephanie Craft, Sara Craft, Dana Hovis, Abigail (Kaden) Brooks and Dominic Hovis, and great-grandchildren: Alaya Garrison and Daemon Garrison. She is also survived by her siblings: Ella (Ronnie) Neibel and Raymond (Alisa) Bixler.
Peggy is best known as a caring mother and hard worker. Her love for her children was richly returned with their dedication to caring for her after her Alzheimer’s diagnosis, bringing her comfort despite the challenges.
A memorial service will be held at Queen-Lee Chapel of George Funeral Care in Shoals, IN at 3 PM on Tuesday September 2, 2025. Burial will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery in Shoals, IN as she joins her husband in eternal peace.
Visitation will be from 1 PM until the service hour on Tuesday.
