November 15, 1948 - February 16, 2026
Leann Kay (Coble) Breed, 77, of Eau Claire, WI, passed peacefully in Ft. Myers, Florida on Feb. 16. She was born November 15, 1948, in Sterling, IL to Leo and Vera (Johnson) Coble.
In childhood, Leann enjoyed music, singing in choirs and playing the flute. Leann met her love, Mel Breed, at Illinois State University. They married on August 25, 1968, and were happily together for 53 years.
She always championed children, founding Kaleidoscope, a non-profit foster care agency, in 1973. Around that time, Leann and Mel had two children, Amy and Joel, and settled in Merna, IL. Moving to Eau Claire in 1993, Leann earned a Bachelor's Degree of early childhood education from UW-Stout. She taught at Cleghorn and Putnam Heights, served on local boards, and was active in many organizations.
Leann was a dedicated mother and grandmother and rarely missed a game or show. Her legacy of kindness and compassion will live on in her family and community.
Leann is survived by: her children, Amy and Joel; her grandchildren, Berit Rhody (Jacob), Harrison, Emerson, and Jackson; her brother, Larry (Janet), nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family (Chris, LeAnn, Rhylee, Reagan). She was preceded in death by; her parents, Leo and Vera Coble, and her husband, Mel Breed.
The memorial service will be March 14 at Spirit Lutheran Church, Eau Claire, WI. Visitation begins at 10 a.m., with the service at 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a non-profit of your choosing. Friends and family may leave online condolences at www.smithfuneralec.com.
