Born March 9, 1945, LeAnne “Annie” Emerick Pappas was always young at heart. She served as an international flight attendant with American Airlines where she worked for over 40 years, embracing her deep love of travel and adventure while connecting with people and places around the world. Reluctant to give up her wings, she finally worked her last flight and retired to her home, Camp Pappas, where she poured her heart into caring for her beloved dogs and horses, a true reflection of her lifelong love for animals. She passed away March 25, 2026, as she took flight again with eternal wings.
She was married to Gary Pappas for over 20 years until his death in November 1996. Later in her life she found love with Beto Elizondo, and they were together for 27 years until his death in November 2024.
Annie loved life and will be missed by her family and friends. She was a light spirit who found joy in the simple things—nature, animals, and the beauty of everyday moments. Especially dear to her heart were her daughter, Michelle Thornton and husband Dr. Lee Thornton of Meridian, Mississippi; granddaughter, Kinsey Nicole Rohrer (Michael); and great-grandchildren, Cleo Mae and Lewis of Midland Texas; granddaughter, Madi Grace Schaeffer (Campbell); and great-grandchild, Monroe of Fort Worth Texas; granddaughter, Hannah Pappas Thornton of San Diego California; and grandson, Lachlan Lee Thornton of Nashville Tennessee. She also leaves behind a brother, Doug of Salt Lake City, Utah, and two nieces.
