Leanne Beorn Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 18, 2015.
Leanne Wade Beorn, aged 66 succumbed on October 17, 2015 to the rare Cholangiocarcinoma (biliary ductal) after having survived cancer of the breast in 2012. She was born in Parkersburg, W. Va. to Leora Dunn and James Lowrance Wade, M.D. on December 18, 1948. She is survived by her husband Charles F. Beorn, M.D. with whom she was very happily married for 46 years; and her son Waitman Wade, PhD (Christy); and granddaughter, Emmaline Leanne. As a young person, she had enjoyed painting in oils and at one time had had aspirations of becoming an art historian. Nevertheless her artistic inspirations later in life were manifested by her seasonal decorations at "Calais", especially extensive ones at Christmas. She also participated in college and community theatre productions as a young adult. She received a Bachelor of Arts (English) from the University of Maryland in Heidelberg, Germany, a Masters of Arts (English) from the University of Richmond, a Masters of Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University and a LCSW (Licensed Clinical Social Worker) Certificate. She held adjunct faculty appointments in the English Departments at Virginia Tech and the University of Richmond. More recently she served patients in several home health agencies and had a clinical practice at Footsteps Counselling Center. Leanne was a member of Manakin Episcopal Church where she served on the Outreach and Search Committees. She was a past president of The Torch Club of Richmond, past member of The Junior League of Richmond and also was a free-lance writer for Style Magazine. Leanne particularly enjoyed equestrian activities, especially three-day eventing with her mounts, "Sam" and "Easy". European Burmese cats, shelties and English springer spaniels captivated her heart. She began her early married life living in Ansbach, Germany (1962-72) while her husband was serving in the United States Army and welcomed the opportunity of travelling through most of Europe. Yet, to her the most beautiful and awe-inspiring place was Lake Louise in Banff National Park, Alberta. Leanne was a very loving, kind, caring, gracious and thoughtful person who, in turn, generated much love, warmth and affection from those whom she met. The family will receive friends from 6pm to 9pm, on Thursday, October 22, 2015 at the Huguenot Chapel of Woody Funeral Home, 1020 Huguenot Rd, Midlothian. Funeral services will be held at 2pm, on Friday, October 23, at Manakin Episcopal Church, 985 Huguenot Trail, Powhatan, VA 23139. With burial to follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made to Manakin Episcopal Church Outreach Committee, the Richmond SPCA, the Richmond Animal League and WCVE-FM.
